How do you know it's referenced?

(I did not mean to put ref in a derogatory term) I have no source of it being referenced but the tells are there.
The cut where he runs toward the alley and away from the alley are very obvious, the artist probably more or less followed the timing of the footsteps and loosley used the spacing in the reference. I feel the biggest tell are the leg motions and positions and arm actions during the run.

It is very clear that this OVA series was animation supervised/directed by Takeshi Honda. But since there are other animators in this one, he didn't animate everything by himself.

This makes me want to find vehicle manuals. Those manuals have detailed illustrations that disassemble vehicles by part. I had luck with finding manuals for disassembled firearms, but the vehicles ones are weirdly expensive in print and hard to find online.

Time to do Kraker2k work for him, Unicorn have like the most detailed Mecha animation I have seen in a while. Which is rare these times.

Unicorn does have great mecha animation (and in general), but it is hard to dispute the work put in for Broken Blade. And humorously, in this growing age of CG mecha, both happen to be predominately 2D-animated, too (no offense to the likes of Expelled from Paradise, Majestic Prince, or Macross Frontier)…
